AirLinc is part of the PowerNet DataLinc family of middleware development tools that also includes PrintLinc. AirLinc is easy to use and is designed to assist in the creation of RFDC applications using RF terminals and serial devices.

AirLinc projects can operate independently, or can be designed to work with PrintLinc to include added serial, digital and analog device control as well as Printer/Applicator functionality.

Features

  • GUI Screen Builder - Menu screens are created automatically based on user-defined menu entries. Each menu is then associated with a user-defined screen. AirLinc provides an intuitive drag and drop screen design utility for creating custom RF terminal data collection screens. Screens can be sized for any terminal and may contain Text Messages, Prompts and Scrolling List Boxes. Prompts may be easily configured to restrict data entry by length, entry method (keyboard, scanner or both) and character type (alpha, numeric or both) by selecting the appropriate radio buttons.
  • Belt Printer and Network Printing Support - Projects may be created to utilize a mix of belt printers and network printers for any given application. Production workers can even choose the most convenient printer from a list of network printers presented on the RF terminal screen while working "out on the floor."
  • Serial Device Control - Scales, Serial Scanners and even VT100 serial interface screens can be utilized in an AirLinc project for "non-RF" data collection. Serial devices can be controlled locally from the AirLinc server, or remotely over an Ethernet network utilizing an Ethernet to Serial converter available from Connect.
  • DOS, Palm O/S and Windows CE Terminal Support - All PowerNet products, including AirLinc, support a wide range of the most popular DOS, Palm O/S and Windows CE RF Terminals by using Connect's popular Twin Client terminal software. The Twin Client software works with the AirLinc server software to display data collection screens without requiring any custom program downloading. PowerNet's open architecture also means concurrent support for all major 2.4 GHz and select 900 MHz RF backbones.
  • Developed For a Client / Server Environment - AirLinc provides a Client/Server installation environment for remote application development. AirLinc projects are executed on the AirLinc server but may be developed from any AirLinc workstation. The AirLinc server, which includes Powernet OpenAir Windows SoftNCU, is designed for installation on a Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP or 2003 operating system. Remote AirLinc workstations may be installed on those operating systems as well as on Windows 95/98/ME. This environment utilizes complete NTFS security and permits project development collaboration across the network.
  • No VB, C or C++ Programming - The common DataLinc script language is fully SQL compliant and provides "back-end" ODBC connectivity to compliant databases completing the bridge between the collected data and your Accounting, Manufacturing, ERP and MRP systems. Other features of the script language include full printer support, terminal scroll screens (List Boxes), SQL transactional control commands (Commit, Rollback), SQL Stored Procedure calls and COM connections. Best of all, AirLinc requires no VB, C or C++ programming.
  • Data Browser - AirLinc's Data Browser Utility provides the ability to view existing 32 bit ODBC data sources that may be referenced within an AirLinc script. Additionally, the Data Browser Utility provides the ability to copy your working database and create a test database with the same structure and/or records as the original. This feature means that you can develop AirLinc projects off-site with a copy of your client's database. Also, by working with a copy of the customer's database, unintended changes to your working database can be avoided while developing your AirLinc project.
  • Auto-Documenting - The Auto-Documenting feature provides a hard copy that can be used as a specification or source document for your client's project. The Auto-Documenting Utility provides the ability to choose the components that appear on the report. Project Description, Menu Maps, Terminal Screen Size, Data Sources and even AirLinc Project Scripts can be included.
  • AirLinc Simulator - The AirLinc simulator provides the ability to view the developed AirLinc project exactly as it would be presented on an RF Terminal Screen. Its primary use is for testing an AirLinc project to gain feedback on the progress of development, however, the simulator is also an effective tool when demonstrating to clients or training RF Terminal users. The AirLinc simulator can even be executed from networked PC's for wired fixed station data collection.
  • Export/Import AirLinc Projects - AirLinc projects may be exported then imported from one AirLinc server to another. This feature enables project development for multiple independent sites during a company wide rollout.
