Connect Introduces BlanketCare and Competitive Upgrades Programs
Naperville,
IL. - Connect, Inc., the leader in Terminal Emulation software
for RF systems, today announced two programs for growing systems.
These new programs are both designed to make it simple for
companies to expand their systems efficiently and economically.
Companies
that participate in Connect's Blanket Care program
can add an additional number of servers equal to their existing
servers covered under their Blanket Care program for
no additional cost.
The second
program allows any RF customers to move to the thick (direct
connect) version of Connect's Twin Client emulator. Whether
moving from a competitive client or from Connect's thin client,
this new program provides significant incentive to move to
the most feature-rich software on the market.
For more
information on these exciting new programs, contact any Connect
reseller or contact Connect directly. Offers end September
30, 2005.

NAPA Implements PowerNet Savings
NAPA, a major
retailer of automotive parts headquartered in Atlanta, was faced
with an awkward situation. They had invested in an RF wireless
data collection system with a vendor that had been purchased by
another company. The Telxon products they used were in danger
of being obsolete.
NAPA contacted
Stratix, a data collection systems supplier with whom they have
worked for many years, for assistance with their situation. Stratix
worked closely with Connect, Inc., an RF software supplier, and
Symbol Technologies. These companies worked together to provide
NAPA with a solution involving a smooth transition.
Using Connect’s
Windows-based server product, NAPA can run their existing equipment,
adding new terminals from Symbol Technology as they move into
the future. This is due to the design of Connect’s architecture,
which allows for older systems to co-exist on the same backbone
with current IEEE802.11B systems, and allows for use of different
radio and access points.
The project
is presently rolling out throughout NAPA’s facilities.

Data Ltd., Dataware and Connect Contribute
Woodridge, IL.
- In 1927, a group in Atlanta began a tradition of giving that has
continued to this day. The Empty Stocking Fund began
servicing 56 children in 1927 and today provides Christmas
gifts for 46,000 children. The Empty Stocking Fund has strict requirements
about the type of family that qualifies for their program. In the
greater Atlanta metropolitan area, over 76,000 children meet its
requirements.
Over the years,
the Empty Stocking Fund has grown from a small group of volunteers
to an organization that has four full-time employees headed by Executive
Director, Don Crawford, and a host of volunteers. Gifts for the
children are all new. They include toys, educational materials,
and clothing. Over 250,000 gifts are distributed annually. These
gifts are purchased from donations made by individuals, corporations,
and foundations. Over 84% of the donations come from individuals,
some of whom are second and third generation contributors.
The process
of this organization encompasses both the public and private sectors.
The distribution center for the Empty Stocking Fund is housed in
Atlanta's City Hall East. Each year volunteers assist families in
selecting gifts for the children who qualify to participate in the
program. With all this activity completed in three weeks, and all
by volunteers, the need to have a quick, easy, accurate method for
getting the right gifts to the families is essential.
To assist in
making sure that the right gifts are given to the families, a new
system is being used this year. Georgia Tech has developed an Access
data base program that will maintain the inventory and use bar codes
to select the gifts as a family selects them. The bar code system
uses a radio frequency data (RF) collection system. Data Ltd. through
their local representative, Mr. Mike Kinney, has donated the data
collection terminals for use by the Empty Stocking Fund. Dataware
Inc. has provided the backbone for the RF system. Connect, Inc.
provided the software tool AirLinc to create screens for the terminals
and handle the interface to the Access database so that inventory
availability is checked and accounted for properly.
This new system
will allow volunteers to select the correct gifts for each family,
and, after verification that the correct gifts are moved from the
warehouse, to process the correct inventory transactions. In the
past, there were times when the inventory posting got behind, causing
uncertainty about availability of gifts. It was then necessary to
do spot counts to get inventory back in line.

Connect Introduces PowerNet CE
Woodridge, IL.
- Connect, Inc., a natural leader in wireless communication, is
pleased to announce its current support of Windows CE. A distinguished
addition to the variety of world-class products and services offered
by Connect, Windows CE fits in well with its complete line of PowerNet
products.
Windows CE (Compact
Edition), a scaled-down version of Windows 98, runs Windows on a
handheld terminal. Requiring only 500k of RAM, the basic Windows
CE OS can be used with even the smallest of electronic devices.
This flexible and powerful OS provides a GUI interface, runs multiple
applications, and offers a touch screen environment, an attractive
alternative to key-based data entry.
According to
Gordon Eilen, Director of Software Development, "This is the
next generation of wireless devices. Over the years we've progressed
from proprietary operating systems to DOS, and now to Windows CE.
We're excited to be a part of this technology evolution."
Connect, Inc.,
an ISO 9001 company, already supports Intelligent Instrumentation's
LANPoint CE terminal, and Hand Held Products' Dolphin 7400 CE terminal.
With the recent
expansion of its line of products to include Windows CE, Connect,
Inc. continues moving in the direction of future market trends.

On Site
System Support: Express Coverage Option
Symbol Technologies
has announced a program whereby its current clients using a PowerNet
OpenAir server may upgrade their server platform to the most current
release of software while replacing older legacy hardware with a
fresh system. It also allows for a rapid response in case of a failed,
damaged or inoperable server.
This On Site System Support option provides a replacement NCU for
a
Mission Critical system when needed.
Should the NCU fail and repairs can not be quickly effected via
telephone
and/or remote diagnostics/configuration, a replacement NCU is shipped
to
the facility for arrival the following business day. When a replacement
unit is shipped, a Symbol on site visit is scheduled to remove and
install the replacement. The Symbol representative will also box
and ship the failed system back to Symbol.
The replacement system becomes the new production system and Symbol's
contract system is updated to track the replacement unit. Keeping
the
unit under continuous coverage effects a technology refresh when
needed and, as long as the unit remains under contract, the customer's
technology investment is protected.
